The apartments were built in the early 1990s. Previously, this was the area where the Academic Hospital (AZU) was located with various buildings. In the mid-1980s, when renovation and expansion were necessary, the AZU moved to De Uithof in Utrecht and later became the current UMC Utrecht. The new destination of this neighborhood became a combination of living and working and was given the name Hooch Boulandt. The name Hooch Boulandt already appears on an old city map from 1630, in the meaning of arable land, land on which products were grown ('boulandt', now in present Dutch 'bouwland').

The area around the Catharijnesingel is indicated, including the area around the historic Geertebolwerk. The former main building and the so-called Sister House of the old AZU are still located on the Catharijnesingel. The old neurology building can still be found on the Nicolaas Beetsstraat. All apartments have been built within the historic facades. In our garden around the pond, there are still the stones from the facade of the original building with the year the hospital was founded, as a reminder of the past.

To learn more about the neighborhood, the municipality has mapped out a walk. The Moreelseroute is a walking route along 8 signs that tell the history of the Hooch Boulandt neighborhood.
